Transplants of genetically modified cells and neural stem cells are studied in the central and the peripheral nervous system of laboratory animals used as models of neurodegenerative disorders. The transplants are studied for therapeutic potential to restore neural function and replace the neuronal populations that die in specific brain regions.

Investigations on antigens of the human major histocompatibility complex are carried out in two main areas; identification, definition and functional roles of HLA-D region genes and HLA-D-linked genes by molecular (DNA hybridization, gene sequencing) techniques, and the role of HLA antigens in rheumatoid arthritis.
